A few months ago, Ali Abdelaziz revealed that his client former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson was making his Octagon return soon. Now Johnson has given an update regarding his return.
Rumble last fought inside the Octagon back in 2017 against Daniel Cormier at UFC 207. He lost the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the second round.
While Rumble is definitely making his comeback, he revealed in a recent interview with MMA Junkie, that he still needs to admit himself into the USADA test pool.
However, he made it clear that his Octagon return will be violent.
“Everything is going smooth,” Johnson said (via MMA Junkie). “No date set, yet. I just plan on catching a lot of bodies when I come back, that’s all I know. It don’t matter if it’s heavyweight or light heavyweight. I’ll knock ’em all out. It don’t matter.”
“I weigh 230, 235 right now – something like that,” Johnson said. “I’ll fight both. It don’t matter what weight. (Miocic and Jones are) both athletes, they’re both champions, they’re both great fighters. The best ever in both weight classes. So, I’ll be glad to take the opportunity to fight both of them, no matter what.”
“When you feel like you’ve still got it, or you still feel like you have something to prove, you’re willing to go out there and sacrifice your life pretty much to go out there and prove it,” Johnson said. “Not just to everybody else, but to yourself.”
Anthony Johnson feeling faster, stronger in training camp
Anthony Johnson revealed last year during BKFC 9 media day that he was training hard for his return. He also revealed that he was faster and stronger than before.
“Coming back now, I feel a lot better and my punches are a lot stronger, harder, faster…the other day my coaches said ‘AJ, you’re still dangerous’ that’s what he said…this is the second time he has seen me spar because he’s been gone for some time as well
“I have knocked out two people already in training in the first two days of sparring. So I feel like everything is clicking,” Johnson said.
Who do you guys think will Johnson fight in his UFC return?
