The talks about former UFC light heavyweight Anthony Johnson making his comeback have been going on for quite some time now. When he returns to the cage, the former title challenger will fight a top-10 opponent.
Rumble last fought inside the Octagon back in 2017 against Daniel Cormier at UFC 207. He lost the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the second round. Prior to that, he was on a three-fight winning streak against Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader, and Jimmy Manuwa.
UFC president Dana White was recently asked about Rumble Johnson’s Octagon return on Reddit AMA. He said that he would like to see Johnson face former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos next.
Fan: Hey Dana, If Anthony “Rumble” Johnson finally comes back, which match up would you like for him to have first? personally, all the top 10 in LHW seem to be good match ups for him. Do you think he’d come back to a top 10 opponent, or a top 5? Him vs Santos would be crazy!
Dana White: I’d give him somebody in the top 10. Let’s see what the landscape looks like when he comes back. (H/T – BJPenn.com)
Anthony Johnson feeling faster, stronger in training camp
Anthony Johnson revealed last year during BKFC 9 media day that he was training hard for his return. He also revealed that he was faster and stronger than before.
“Coming back now, I feel a lot better and my punches are a lot stronger, harder, faster…the other day my coaches said ‘AJ, you’re still dangerous’ that’s what he said…this is the second time he has seen me spar because he’s been gone for some time as well
“I have knocked out two people already in training in the first two days of sparring. So I feel like everything is clicking,” Johnson said.
