UFC president Dana White has finally revealed his all-time favorite knockout in the UFC. He said that Jorge Masvidal’s knockout win over Ben Askren is his favorite KO of all time.
After a series of verbal back and forth between Masvidal and Askren, the pair fought at UFC 239 in Las Vegas. In this fight, Jorge Masvidal scored a brutal knockout in just five-seconds after the bell rang for the opening round.
Masvidal knocked out Askren with a flying knee and then went to land a series of punches until the referee stepped in. It was one of the most brutal knockouts of the year. This KO was also selected as the Knockout of the year by The MMA India Show.
This win catapulted Askren into stardom and was one of the most talked-about fights of the year. UFC president Dana White took to Reddit for an AMA on the MMA subreddit. He was asked by an MMA fan about his all-time favorite knockout.
Fan: What is your favorite knockout of all time?
Dana White: Hmmm. When I give you this answer everyone is going to think it’s because I don’t like Ben Askren. And it’s just not true at all. I do like Ben. But it’s hard not to pick Masvidal vs Askren (H/T – BJPenn.com)
While Ben Askren was knocked out early in the fight, he was extremely cool about it later. In fact, earlier this year, he himself Masvidal as the fighter of the year for his terrific performance in 2019.
“I already told you it’s freaking Jorge. I’d like to pick Israel Adesanya over him, but I think that will be disingenuous,” Askren told Ariel Helwani of ESPN. “If I take a look from an unbiased perspective, it is freaking Jorge and if you said a year that this was going to happen. Everyone would have said that you are on drugs or have some type of an issue. But unfortunately, I think he deserves it.”
