Any type of professional sport that is played at the highest level of competition often takes a rather heavy physical toll on the bodies of the athletes that take part in it. Such physical toll and damage is even greater to athletes in the world of tough contact sports and combat sports’ like boxing and mixed martial arts, in particular. This was further proved in a recent social media post by the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes, who posted pictures of his badly bruised leg after his UFC 247 battle against the champion Jon Jones.
Reyes dominated the first three rounds of the fight, out striking the champion and controlling the fight on the feet. Jones did have his moments too in the first three rounds, but most fans and pundits alike scored the initial three rounds in the challenger’s favor. Though, Reyes later emptied his gas tank and could not keep up with the pace of the fight. Thus, Jones took over in the last two championship rounds of the fight.
Jones’ MMA record has almost been blemish-free, his only defeat came early in his career against Matt Hamill due to disqualification for using illegal 12-6 elbows. He has multiple notable victories over legendary fighters such as the former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Mauricio Shogun Rua, among many others.
Reyes too had a perfect 12-0 record before facing off against Jones at UFC 247. However, Bones gave Reyes the first professional loss of his career.
While according to many Reyes won the fight against Jones, he did take quite a beating. In particular, Jones hit the challenger with plenty of hard kicks to the leg. This apparently left Reyes’ thigh and leg completely bruised. He took to Instagram to proudly show off his scars that he sustained in battle. He posted the pictures of his leg with the following caption:
Hey Everyone! I’m doin good, thanks for the tremendous support. MRI came back negative, but have some bruising from blunt force trauma. #peopleschamp #pricewepay
