Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Francis Ngannou will take on Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249. The fight was initially scheduled to take place at UFC Columbus on March 28, but it had to be cancelled because of Coronavirus outbreak.

UFC 249 is 10-days away and despite the initial hiccups, UFC president Dana White has managed to pull together a stacked card. After Khabib pulled out of the card, UFC managed to rope in Justin Gaethje and make the main event into an interim title fight.

There are concerns regarding the safety of the fighters amidst the Coronavirus pandemic. Dana White has been criticized by fans and media for trying to host an MMA event when an infectious disease outbreak has put the world to a standstill.

On Monday, UFC president Dana White told fans that UFC was going above and beyond to make sure that the fighters are safe. Domestic UFC fight card will take place at  Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, California.

Francis Ngannou will be tested for UFC 249

Francis Ngannou isn’t worried much about the COVID-19 leading up to his fight against Rozenstruik at UFC 249. He said that he and his team are going to be tested ahead of UFC 249.

Yes, definitely, I mean first off, I had no doubt about that I know that they [UFC] are going to do whatever it takes to keep us safe. Just even before the quarantine, the precautions that they were taking at the P.I. [Performance Institute] it was just amazing to see how they were careful about everything and tried to do everything to protect people. Now with the fight, I just had a call that we’re still going to get tested before we go out there, me and all my team which once again, I feel good about it. That’s something that makes you believe in the safety of the event.” Ngannou said told BJPENN.com’s Inside The Cage

Ngannou is fully confident in the UFC’s ability to take care of the fighter’s safety.

I mean technically, it’s way more safe than the grocery store out there. They don’t test people before they go to the grocery store and you see those people when you walk through the grocery store, it’s just scary. So this for me, this is less risk than going out for groceries because I know all the people that I’ll be around will be tested and good, so I feel very secure about it.”
