UFC News: Henry Cejudo gets called out for racist remarks against Aljamain Sterling

Henry Cejudo is under fire from ESPN reporter after using racist statement against a fellow UFC fighter. UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo angered a few people after using the term ‘Aljamima’ to describe Aljamain Sterling.

Cejudo recently gave an interview to ESPN, where he was asked about his willingness to fight Jose Aldo. While he didn’t tell anything racial during the interview, his tweet quoting the ESPN interview was disturbing.

Aunt Jemima is often used in a racially pejorative sense. He also made fun of Petr Yan’s lack of English speaking skills. He called Yan as “a communist potato”.

“Champ, I respect your talent. And I have thick skin. BUT, if you were wondering if calling @funkmasterMMA“Aljamima” was racist, the answer is yes. Yes it is. Please stop.” Bryant wrote.

“I know a lot of people won’t get it, really I do. I’m not going to give a history lesson here, nor am I a person who cries “racism!” at every slight. IMO it’s a bad look for the Champ and I would encourage him to stop using that “nickname” for his black opponent.,” Bryant wrote.

“I am rarely offended, TBH. And maybe he didn’t “mean” it, but that doesn’t mean it’s a great idea for him to keep using it. I pointed it out in the hopes that he’d stop. And I like Henry! I don’t have a problem with him, just thought he could learn something here…,” Bryant concluded.

Henry Cejudo is slated to fight Jose Aldo for the UFC bantamweight title in May. He is coming off of a TKO win over Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 in Chicago.
