Israel Adesanya might be fighting Yoel Romero this weekend at UFC 248 in Las Vegas, but he isn’t missing any opportunity of taking digs at Paulo Costa.
It was Paulo Costa who should have been fighting Adesanya next. Costa was also present cageside when Adesanya knocked out Robert Whittaker at UFC 243. Paulo Costa suffered a hand injury in early November last year following which he had to undergo surgery.
Both fighters have been taking back and forth shots at each other for quite some time now. Israel Adesanya took the latest shot at each other during the UFC media day. Adesanya stated that he wants to pop Paulo Costa before USADA does.
“I called him after the last fight…I want to pop that m*****f****r before USADA does…I swear to god and I want to be the first one to do it,” Adesanya said about fighting Paulo Costa next.
Israel Adesanya was sceptical about Paulo Costa’s injury
In November last year, Israel Adesanya revealed on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show that he wasn’t buying Costa’s injury argument. He said that the reason Costa was out for a while was because of USADA.
“I am going to use the word allegedly because I have my legal team here. But I do have my own suspicions,” Israel said.“I mean you have seen UFC move shows from New York to L.A. before, they have kept information. With how the USADA policy is, you can’t disclose anything until after the trial or whatever.”
“But I want to get that one out of the way because everyone thinks he’s dangerous. I think he is a dangerous guy and one that would beat a lot of big names in the sport, and already has,” said Adesanya.
