UFC News: Johnny Walker admits he has to improve his cardio and defensive wrestling

Johnny Walker suffered his second straight defeat in the UFC last weekend at UFC Brasilia. He lost via unanimous decision to Nikita Krylov over three rounds.

For the first time in his career, Johnny Walker is on a losing streak. His fight against Krylov was pretty much one-sided. Walker started the fight with a flying knee attempt.

This flying knee missed Krylov and it was the same kind of flying knee that has previously knocked out Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235. However, after this missed flying knee, Walker wasn’t able to do much as Nikita Krylov’s game plan started to take over. Krylov had Walker pushed towards the cage and went on to go for takedowns after takedowns.

By the final round, Walker was out of breath and it looked like his conditioning had given up on him. Following his loss, he went back to his hotel and told reporters that he needed to work on his cardio and defensive wrestling.

He put a lot of pressure, I even defended some takedowns, but I don’t know what happened because I got tired,” Walker said. “I have good cardio and I don’t know what happened…if it was the weather. I don’t want to give excuses, but I got tired. And I train a lot. I don’t go out partying, I do the right diet. When I’m in camp and go from home to the gym and back. So it’s about training more.

Nikita put a lot of pressure on the wrestling, where I need to get better, too, my defense. He didn’t want to trade with me, and I knew that. But two get in and one gets out. I have to be prepared to win or lose. I went there ready for death, I gave my best. And I couldn’t do anything anymore, but I was there, fighting. I gave the best I could. Now it’s time to go back tot he gym and train more. I’m happy I fought three rounds. I vomited a lot after the fight, I felt ill. That’s really good, I felt alive.” (H/T – MMAFighting.com)
