UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247. The fight will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Jon Jones is without a doubt the most dominating champion in the history of UFC. At the age of 23, he was also the youngest fighter to win a UFC title. He defeated Shogun Rua at UFC 128 to become the UFC champion. Standing at 6’4″ tall, the 31-year old champion from Rochester has compiled a record of 24-1 inside the Octagon. His only loss in MMA came to Matt Hamilton back in 2009 where he was disqualified because of illegal elbows.
Jon Jones holds victories over current UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, Quinton Jackson, Ryan Bader, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson etc.
Jon Jones’ youngest UFC champion record won’t be broken
Many fighters have tried to become the youngest UFC champion, with the most recent being 21-year Maycee Barber. However, Jones believes that no one can break his record of being the youngest UFC champion.
“To be honest, I feel like it’s going to be harder to break that record because of where Martial Arts is going,” Jones said.
“When I joined the sport, I went up against Shogun, who I think is an honourable guy to get it from [win title]. He was very well versed, great jiu-jitsu, great striking, but he had a huge hole in his wrestling
“And I just happen to be a wrestler and I filled in that hole, took him down, ultimately pretty much finishing the fight on the ground. I don’t think in future you’re going to be fighting with holes like that
“I think the future champions are going to have elite jiu-jitsu, elite wrestling and elite kickboxing. So for a 23-year old to come up and become a world champion, he is gonna have to be trained in everything. He’s gonna have no holes in his game or else I don’t see anybody breaking that record,” Jones concluded.
