UFC News: Kevin Lee vs Charles Oliveira card could be in doldrums after Coronavirus scare

Coronavirus has taken a deadly toll on the world and now the effects are being felt in the MMA world as well. UFC Fight Night 170 which is scheduled to take place in Brasilia is now in real danger of getting canceled.

UFC Fight Night 170 will feature a lightweight fight between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira. However, two new coronavirus cases being confirmed in the Brazilian capital. This has led the governor Ibaneis Rocha announcing that all kinds of sporting events and gathering of large number of people will be suspended till March 16.

As per reports from MMAFighting.com, UFC is in talks with the Brazilian goverment regarding the event. The fight is taking place at the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium arena which seats 16,000 people.

The officials from the Arena have released a statement saying that they will comply with the goverment.

“Arena BSB informs that became aware of a decree from the Government of the Federal District that restricts public access to sporting and cultural events, and awaits specific positioning regarding the events scheduled for this Saturday: UFC and [a soccer match]. It also clarifies that it will follow all official regulations in order to collaborate with the maintenance of public health”

What is Coronavirus?

As per economic times, The coronavirus is a family of viruses that can cause a range of illnesses in humans including the common cold and more severe forms like SARS and MERS which are life-threatening.

So far Coronavirus has been declared as a pandemic.  So far there have been 118,000 cases in 114 countries and 4,291 deaths.
