Last week, media outlets reported about the critical health condition of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. The renowned coach is the father of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. He was hospitalized in Moscow and underwent heart surgery after complications arose because of the COVID-19 infection.

Now, the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has confirmed his father’s condition on Instagram. He admitted that his father’s condition worsened as a result of coronavirus, which affected him from his previous ailments.

Khabib then went on to say that as many as 20 members in his family have been affected by the virus.

In my personal case, I’ve had more than 20 people sick from my family,” Nurmagomedov said in his Instagram video. “More than 20 people were lying in the ICUs. And many of them are no longer among us. Many acquaintances have died, many parents of my relatives. Everybody is having a hard time dealing with it.

There is a lot written on the internet about my father. My father, right now, is located in a hospital. He is in critical condition as a result of this virus. It impacted his heart because last year he had a surgery there, and right now, they did another surgery. He is in a very difficult situation, very difficult. We are asking Allah that he returns him to us.” (Translated by ESPN)

The Dagestani star is a devout Muslim and is currently observing Ramadan along with billions of Muslims worldwide. He urged people to pray from home and not have guests over.

Our learned Islamic scholars are telling us, ‘Stay home, and do the holiday prayer,’” Nurmagomedov said. “‘Don’t have guests. Don’t go yourselves as guests.’ It is a very difficult situation.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov urged his fellow countrymen to be cautious of Coronavirus

The deteriorating health of his father had a significant impact on Khabib Nurmagomedov. Even last month, he took to social media and urged his fellow countrymen to take necessary precautions from the Coronavirus. He said that they shouldn’t leave their houses unless it’s essential.

Many hoped that the trouble would not land on their doorstep; many still do not believe in the seriousness of the situation. However, our negligence to the advice and requests of doctors, coupled with the panic created by the people, led to a high rate of spread of the disease, exacerbating the already difficult situation,” Nurmagomedov said on Instagram last month. “The fact is our hospitals are now overcrowded with patients. There are no specialists and not enough medication or supplies, while the number of patients is only growing.

Believe me, the disease is deadly and we already feel it ourselves. By staying at home, we can reduce the burden on doctors and hospitals, and perhaps through our cautiousness, we will save lives. Take care of your loved ones and do not let them leave the house unnecessarily.”
