The UFC had been for weeks desperately trying to make UFC 249 happen, particularly because the fans and the entire combat sports world alike were just begging to see this generation’s two most talented fighters who happen to be in the same division take on each other. However, just like it had happened four times before, the fight fell off as one of the fighters had to, unfortunately, pull out. With the UFC lightweight champion Khabib The Eagle Nurmagomedov pulling out it has left his opponent Tony Ferguson in a dilemma without an opponent. However, according to ESPN, the UFC is very close to confirming the entire fight card including the new opponent for Ferguson as well as the location where the fight would take.
ESPN has for over a year now been closely working with the UFC and also has a contract in place which lets them broadcast not just Fight Night events but also high profile PPVs. Thus, it has often been considered that ESPN is arguably the most extremely credible source when it comes to UFC rumours and news due to their close personal ties.
A recent ESPN report revealed that the UFC will soon make it all official and reveal the UFC 249 fight card and location. They hinted that the fight will likely take place somewhere on the West Coast of USA and might take place on “tribal land”, which will put the event outside the jurisdiction of state athletic commissions.
It should also be noted that the UFC President Dana White has already confirmed that the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be a part of this event. White shot down a news report by Ariel Helwani on Twitter in which the journalist had claimed that the Russian will be fighting Ferguson. White confirmed that Nurmagomedov is out of the event and he will personally reveal and make the entire fight card official tomorrow.
You can check out his tweet down below:
Absolutely NOT true!!! The card is happening but @TeamKhabib is out. I will announce the entire card tomorrow.

Conor McGregor has already issued a challenge to Ferguson for UFC 249
Conor McGregor through a series of recent tweets had called out both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov. He has even expressed his interest in fighting at UFC 249, “I am in shape to fight right now! At the beginning of all this, I said to myself – I’m happy I don’t have an official fight booked. If I did, I would have consumed all the incorrect data to support me taking part in the bout, and I would have followed through, competed. And won. The fact of this matter is, both Tony and Khabib where engaged in a game of chicken here towards the fight bell. With Khabib chickening out first. Making it 3-2 in pullouts in Tony’s favour. Khab scurried out of the U.S to home, and amid the crisis. Very high risk. Congrats Tony.”
