Last week Robert Whittaker pulled out of his scheduled UFC 248 fight against Jared Cannonier at UFC 248. UFC didn’t announce the reason behind Whittaker pulling out of the fight.

Then it was speculated that Whittaker was going to donate his bone marrow to his daughter Lilliana. His daughter was born in February of 2018.

However, the former UFC middleweight champion has released a statement asking fans not to believe in such rumours.

Thanks everyone for all the support & well wishes, lots of false rumours out there so please ignore them. I have been off socials working with some personal matters and spending time with my family, I will back very soon, stronger & better than ever before. #alliswell #reapernation,” Whittaker posted on his Instagram account.

Dana White calls Robert Whittaker selfless

While the reason behind Whittaker pulling out of the fight is still unclear, UFC president Dana White revealed that it was because of Whittaker’s personal reason, which he didn’t disclose. He called Whittaker’s decision as “unselfish: and “selfless” during an interview with the Submission Radio.

That’s personal for Whittaker. If Whittaker wants to talk about that, he can.

But I’ll tell you this, when you talk about somebody whose priorities are in the right place, who is completely selfless and down to the core a good human being, that’s Robert Whittaker.

The reason Robert Whittaker is not fighting in this fight is one of the most unselfish things I’ve seen in my life.”

Robert Whittaker lost his UFC title last October at UFC 243 to Israel Adesanya. Since that defeat, he was ever to get back inside the Octagon and a fight with No. 4 ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier is highly intriguing.

Prior to his defeat to Israel Adesanya in Melbourne in October, he was riding on an incredible nine-fight winning streak, where he defeated the likes of Yoel Romero twice, Ronaldo Souza, Derek Brunson etc.

Robert Whittaker revealed last month that he was looking forward to winning in his fight against Jared Cannonier and getting back in the title contention. While with his personal problems keeping him out of action, it is highly unlikely.

Meanwhile, UFC 248 will feature a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero.
