UFC 247 is finally in the books now and it is apparently safe to say that it was indeed a rather decent yet extremely successful event. The main event of the PPV, in particular, delivered and left the fans extremely enthralled and entertained. However, it also left a bad taste in every fans’ mind as the result of the main event bout was marred with controversy as the challenger Dominick Reyes lost the fight via a judges’ decision. Reyes has now revealed that he learned a new technique while being in the thick of battle against Jones.

Reyes dominated the first three rounds of the fight, out striking the champion and controlling the fight on the feet. Jones did have his moments too in the first three rounds, but most fans and pundits alike scored the initial three rounds in the challenger’s favor. Though, Reyes later emptied his gas tank and could not keep up with the pace of the fight. Thus, Jones took over in the last two championship rounds of the fight.

Dominick Reyes

Reyes in a recent interview given to noted combat sports journalist Luke Thomas told him that he had never before in his life switched stances in an actual fight or training. However, in his battle against Jones at UFC 247 he just taught it to himself out of instinct. Here’s what he had to say:

Dominick Reyes tells me he has never tried stance switching before just doing it on the fly against Jones at UFC 247. He says he taught himself how to do it in real time. I’ve never heard that before.

Thomas took to Twitter to reveal what Reyes had told him on his show:

Jones’ MMA record has almost been blemish-free, his only defeat came early in his career against Matt Hamill due to disqualification for using illegal 12-6 elbows. He has multiple notable victories over legendary fighters such as the former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Mauricio Shogun Rua, among many others.

Reyes too had a perfect 12-0 record before facing off against Jones at UFC 247. However, Bones gave Reyes the first professional loss of his career.
