The clock is ticking on UFC 230 on November 3 at the iconic Madison Square Garden. We have a stacked main card however we still don’t have a main event. The MMA community started speculating a plethora of options that could headline this massive and history event.
After few possibilities got down and dusted, the fans moved towards the most active champion on last year, welterweight king Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley. A title unification bout between Woodley and interim welterweight champion Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington was inevitable and slated for UFC 228 in September. However, Covington was recovering from the health problems he faced during his title bout at UFC 225. Thus the opportunity was handed to the next in line contender Darren Till.
However, another huge blow happened. According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Woodley will have to undergo a hand surgery, which takes his out of the equation to headline 230. That obviously didn’t go well with Colby Covington who took to Twitter to remove his resentment on Woodley.
However another welterweight is ready to step in to fight Colby Covington on the main event spot, arch-rival and #6 ranked Kamaru Usman.
There has always been back and forth between Covington and Usman on social media after Covington’s infamous and controversial post-fight interview in October last year calling the ‘country’ of Brazil ‘Dumb’ and people as ‘filthy animals’. (via Twitter):
You call yourself the real champ… well then it’s time 2 defend @ColbyCovMMA your ass can’t run from me forever #MSG it is then @danawhite @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2 it’s time 2 let me blow out this kid’s candle 👊🏾🇳🇬 #UFC230

Usman (13-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) has never tasted defeat in the UFC and is on a 12 fight qinne streak overall. Usman is coming of a lopsided unanimous decision victory against former welterweight and middleweight title challenger Demain Maia in March.
