UFC Heavyweight stalwart Ciryl Gane marked his first win of the year after knocking out Tai Tuivasa in the third round of their main event showdown at UFC Paris which took place on 3rd September at the Accor Arena in the French capital.
Coming from his maiden career loss to reigning divisional champ Francis Ngannou at UFC 270 back in January, the former interim champ Gane had the advantage of home crowd as he took on the Aussie fighter in the Octagon.
After Gane walked him down in the first round by utilizing his range and using frequent leg licks, Tuivasa bounced back in the second by dropping Gane with a huge hook. The Frenchman was able to get back up on trembling legs but made a brilliant comeback into the fight with returning Tuivasa a barrage of jabs.
After both fighter had taken a round each, the third round saw Gane taking the leg kick approach again and was seemingly gaining the upperhand on Tuivasa, who now appeared to be battered from Gane’s brutal hooks and leg kicks. Around 17 seconds remaining on the clock in the round, Gane delivered a brutal combo, sending Tuivasa down to the canvas, marking a victory by KO.
The co-many event saw former UFC Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker defeating former 185-pound title contender Marvin Vettori via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
