UFC’s debut event in Chile is without a main event for the time being after Santiago Ponzinibbio has pulled out of the fight against Kamaru Usman with an injury. Search for replacements

Kamaru Usman who is on a 7 fight win streak in the UFC was scheduled to face his first top 10 ranked opponent in Santiago Ponzinibbio. UFC is reportedly working for a replacement but Usman has said that he would not fight if he doesn’t get a ranked opponent. One of the options that was discussed was Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira who won last week against Carlos Condit, although it doesn’t look likely due to a quick turnaround for Cowboy. There are limited options of a ranked fighter being available for UFC Chile.

Shogun vs Volkan scrapped

There is even more bad news for the card as the co- main event featuring former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir and former UFC champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua has been scrapped due to visa issues for Volkan over an alleged assualt case. The marquee light heavyweight fight is currently being rescheduled for a later date due Volkan’s inability to leave the country due to an ongoing investigation.

Other bouts on the UFC Chile fight card

UFC Chile still has exciting fights scheduled, with the UFC Welterweight prospect Vicente Luque facing Chad Laprise, while  Alexa Grasso faces Tatiana Suarez in the straw weight division and the fight that was cancelled due to Conor Mcgregor’s attack on UFC 223 media day is scheduled for this event with Ray Borg facing Brandon Moreno in the UFC Flyweight Division.
