UFC: Reports emerge that Conor McGregor will be stripped of his UFC Lightweight Championship later this week

Although Dana White has been saying that the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson at UFC 223 will be for the undisputed UFC Lightweight Championship, he’s not come out and confirmed that inactive Champion Conor Mcgregor will be stripped of the belt.

However, that is about to change.

Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com has tweeted out that Conor McGregor will be stripped of his second UFC Title in the course of this week and that the fight between Khabib and Tony will be for the undisputed belt.

McGregor has not fought in the UFC since late in 2016, when he knocked Eddie Alvarez out to capture the UFC Lightweight Championship. At the time, he was also in possession of the UFC Featherweight Championship, which he was made to relinquish as well.

He only fought Floyd Mayweather in 2017, in a one-off boxing super fight which he lost by 10th round TKO. Ever since, McGregor has been content to sit on the sidelines, trying to trash out a better deal for himself with the UFC.

There have been rumours of him fighting again in 2018, though if this development were to be believed, one could assume that the earliest we can see McGregor in the Octagon again would be in the second half of the year.

Do you think the UFC made the right call in stripping Conor McGregor?

And when he comes back, should he be given an automatic Title shot against the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson?
