After more than four years, UFC will be returning to China, with the upcoming UFC Fight Night 234 heading to the Shanghai Indoor Stadium on 9th December.
UFC Shanghai to be their first even in China since the pandemic
It was rumoured for months regarding about a Chinese fight card for the end of this year had been and finally, the promotion made the news official this Wednesday. It will also be the first UFC event in China since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main event is yet to be announced, but the rest of the UFC Shanghai card next month looks something like this:
- Andre Muniz vs. Jun Yong Park
- Nasrat Haqparast vs. Jamie Mullarkey
- Carlos Hernandez vs. Tatsuro Taira
- Brendson Ribeiro vs. Mingyang Zhang
- Allan Nascimento vs. Su Mudaerji
- Hyun Sung Park vs. Shannon Ross
UFC hosted its first ever event in Shanghai all the way back in 2017 with UFC Fight Night 122, featuring Michael Bisping in his final UFC bout as a short notice replacement to Anderson Silva, who took on Kelvin Gastelum in the main event.
The last time there was a UFC event in China was in 2019 when Zhang Weili took on the then UFC Women’s Strawweight champ Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Night 157, and became the new champion.
