In his latest Instagram post, he hinted that he is on his way to recovery from his surgery and and wants to see what happens next. Whittaker won the interim belt at UFC 213, when he defeated arch rival Yoel Romero. He was promoted to the undisputed champion in December when the erstwhile champion George St-Pierre vacated the belt due to colitis.

Whittaker underwent a successful surgery in his right hand after he broke it in UFC 225. A typical time frame for recovery from such an injury lies between six to eight weeks.
