Ronaldo Souza and David Branch are expected to face off at UFC 230 later this year, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported Thursday night. The fight will be taking place in David Branch’s home turf in New York City. UFC 230 takes place Nov. 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Souza (26-5, 1 NC) hopes to rebound from a split decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 224 in his last fight. Ranked at No. 5 in the 185-pound weight class, ‘Jacare’ is within sight of the top of the division. A win would solidify his place in the rankings and move him a step closer to a shot at the title.
Branch, who has been calling out Jacare on Social Media for months, is coming off an upset win over Brazilian knockout artist Thiago Santos at UFC Atlantic City this past April. The former WSOF two-division champion is 2-1 since returning to the UFC.
This is the first fight that has been confirmed for the upcoming New York show even though UFC has not made it official yet.
