Our India’s own Super Fight League (SFL) has now contributed to a fighter reach the UFC as SFL 2018 prospect Sarah Frota Lima (9-0-0) earned herself a contract in the Brazilian installment of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Lima took on a familiar face, the last opponent she faced in SFL, Maiara Amanajas Dos Santos in a rematch. The first time they met, Lima won the fight via first round submission. This time however, the BJJ specialist got the job done with a TKO victory.
Frota Lima fights out of Astra Fight Team which serves as a training ground for talented UFC fighters like Erick Silva, Junior Albini and current title challenger Darren Till who trained with the team when he was residing in Brazil.
Frota Lima made her SFL debut on February 9, 2018 against fellow Brazilian Tataine Contes do Couto. She won the fight via triangle choke in the first round. As the format demands just a week later, she fought Dos Santos.
Another female flyweight who won the contract this year is former bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko’s sister Antonina Shevchenko. A fight between Frota Lima and Shevchenko down the line would be a classic grappler vs striker barn burner.
