Just a week left to go to the biggest welterweight fight of the year between Stephen Thompson and Darren Till. But Stephen Thompon, a formal challenger to the title and the guy Till won a close decision to says that Till doesn’t deserve a title shot.
They both fought early this year in a lackluster fight with both of them combined to land just 71 strikes over five rounds, with no more than three significant strikes separating them in any round outside the last. To makes the matter worse Till missed the weight by 3.5 pounds.
Speaking to Submission Radio, ‘Wonderboy’ gave his thoughts on Till fighting for the title despite missing weight in his last fight:
“For [Till] to be actually fighting for the title, man… and they’re wondering why people aren’t making weight. Because there’s no consequences. Yeah sure, he wasn’t getting paid much for that (Liverpool) fight, so of course he won’t make weight. Give 20 or 30 percent or whatever it was to move up the rankings. So now, I mean, he’s probably getting crazy money to fight now, so I bet it was worth it. And the UFC is like, why aren’t these guys making weight? Because there’s no consequences. You know, no real consequences. A lot of people will give them 30 percent and move up the rankings because their next fight will be more money. It’s just a sacrifice at the moment for a bigger gain later on.”

Stephen Thompson talks a lot of sense here and very accurate as Darren Till has missed weight not once but in two occasions.
