Jessica Penne (12-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) was flagged by USADA for a potential anti-doping violation. Interesting to note that the out-of-competition sample from March 20 was initially reported negative but was later overturned after the review of her “Biological Passport“.
Essentially, a variance in the biological passport detected over time calls for additional tests to detect previously undetectable substances which may be present in very minute amount or even went completely undetected by traditional testing.
Jessica has competed post this test on April 22 at UFC Fight Night 108 which saw her lose to Danielle Taylor thus marking her third consecutive UFC loss. USADA will work with local officials from Tennessee to assist in determination of potential violation.
With athletes being flagged day in and day out, one can only ponder why fighters do not learn from their counterparts and keep the sport clean.
