UFC 227 might have not produced a huge gate but certainly turned out to be better than expected courtesy of the co-main event and main event.
In the co-main event, challenger Henry ‘The Messenger’ Cejudo pulled out a huge upset defeating pound-for-pound #1 ranked and flyweight champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson via split decision ending his 11 title defense streak and 6 year tenure as a champion.
Super fights have become the next cool trend in MMA and Cejudo wants the same. In his post-fight octagon interview, a pumped Cejudo called to fight for the main event winner which later happened to be Dillashaw. Dillashaw however didn’t sound excited about this idea.
“I don’t really think the guy would deserve it,” Dillashaw said.
“I mean, Joseph Benavidez just beat him,” Dillashaw said. “Yeah, (Benavidez) lost a split decision to (Sergio) Pettis, but I didn’t agree with that loss. So I think there’s a lot of stuff there, and he’s possibly got a trilogy with (Demetrious Johnson). I’m open to whatever, though. I’m not stepping away from a challenge, that’s for sure.”
Dillashaw concluded saying super fights only make sense between two dominant champions.
