Tyron Woodley believes Dos Anjos got ‘played’ when he accepted the fight against Colby Covington at UFC 225 for the Interim UFC Welterweight title in June. Woodley does not feel there was any need for an interim title in the welterweight division. Woodley recently had a surgery for his shoulder after his fight with Demian Maia at UFC 214 in July 2017.
Rafael Dos Anjos won his fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC Fight Night Winnipeg after Dana White announced that Dos Anjos will receive the next title shot against Tyron Woodley once the champion was ready to return to the Octagon.
On UFC unwilling to wait
UFC President,Dana White announced the interim title fight at the press conference in Brooklyn because Woodley wouldn’t be available until August of this year.“We’re not gonna be in a position where we jam up a division, so we’re gonna do the fight,” White said. Dana felt that the wait till August was too long to not have an Interim Title fight between Rafael Dos Anjos and Colby Covington.
Woodley’s thoughts on the fight
According to Woodley, Rafael Dos Anjos had the fight confirmed only if he was willing to wait for him. Also Woodley said that he was ready to fight either in June or July after his shoulder recovery and Dos Anjos should not have had to fight Covington.

“Bruh. Sad to see fighters being played,” Woodley tweeted on Sunday. “I accepted to fight [dos Anjos] July made# be (sic) June if I was given more time to let them know if im good. He fighting Qweefington (Colby Covington)for no reason.”
Woodley has defended his title three times after winning it against Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 ( against Thompson at UFC 205 and 209, against Maia at UFC 214) and feels that he was a sufficiently active chapion for the UFC to wait for his recovery and not make the Interim title fight.
