The news regarding a unification bout between UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and interim welterweight champion Colby Covington might be announced at any minute.

The fight is expected to be promoted with a lot of trash talk due to the bad blood between the two champions. Another expected element of the fight would be ‘Wrestling’. With Woodley and Covington both having elite wrestling backgrounds, the fight is expected to hit the ground. However, that’s what makes champ Woodley excited about the fight.

Woodley believes he matches up well against Covington and the pressing style of Covington would make him susceptible for the knockout.

“His ground is terrible. When you think about all those attributes, I’ve said this before, put your chin on the treadmill. Show me how you can condition your chin to take a punch,” Woodley said on a recent episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast.

“Fighters that press me like that have been the ones that get knocked out. Koscheck was one and got knocked out. Robbie (Lawler) is a pressure fighter. He got knocked out. I’ve fought a guy like him before. These are people I call The Walking Dead. They know they have to get a takedown.”

Woodley claims with the takedown defense he has, it’s funny that Covington thinks he can drag him on the mat.

“It’s not like I just have the best takedown defense in the welterweight division. I have the best takedown defense in the history of the UFC. It’s kind of funny that his whole game plan is surrounded around taking me down.”
