The UFC has reportedly signed a deal with Amazon whereby their pay-per-view events can be streamed through the service by viewers.

The deal would come into effect from this Saturday’s UFC 222 event, available at USD 64.99.

The deal is currently only valid in North America, which is the primary thrust of the pay-per-view market. Viewers would also not require a subscription to Amazon Prime Video to view the pay-per-view event.

In that sense, Recode claims that Amazon has started channelling into the role of a digitized cable company. After their pursuit to live stream Thursday Night Football, this UFC deal affirms Amazon’s view that sport comprises an integral part of their vision in taking over the viewership media.

And although the specifics of the financials have not been released, it is said that Amazon will make a percentage of the pay-per-view sales revenue that the UFC nets from each event.
