Fan favourite Nate Diaz’s return is a long time coming. The Stockton product last fought at the historic UFC 202 about 18 months ago against former UFC lightweight champion and arch rival Conor McGregor. Diaz’s return was always rumoured and discussed but was never materialized.
If ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has to be believed then UFC and Nate Diaz have discussed the possibility of him returning back to the octagon at UFC 227 on August 4.
Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC) never showed much interest in a return in the entire year of 2017. There were rumours that UFC 209 would be in Stockton with both Diaz brothers on the same card. Obviously that didn’t fall in place.
However, in January 2018, in a social media post wrote, “I’ll see you around May, June”. Again in February, Diaz told ESPN that was targeting current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. UFC President Dana White however dismissed the fight completely in multiple interviews. When asked by ESPN about Diaz’s return, White said there is “no update” and Diaz has declined to provide details on any recent discussions.
UFC 227 takes place in Los Angeles, California. Interestingly this is the home state of Diaz and stars would align in the right direction for his comeback.
