Former WEC bantamweight and former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor always shared a friendly yet competitive rerelationship.
The duo were team coaches on the Ultimate Fighter season 22 back in 2015. McGregor had moments of bad blood against Faber’s then teammate, current UFC bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw and former bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt who was a participant on the show back then. McGregor however never had any beef with Faber. Faber was actually considered as to fight McGregor at UFC 196.
The respect between them continues as Faber is now rooting for McGregor in what would be probably the most important fight in the history if the sport against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on October 6.
“I think odds are in Conor’s favor, because it starts standing every round, and unless Khabib can take him down over and over again, right off the bat, the power’s a little much,” Faber told TMZ Sports.
“Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, those guys don’t get knocked out often,” he said, keeping in mind the striking of McGregor.
