UFC: USADA shoots down rumors of payoff in Jon Jones case

Jon Jones and USADA have a very rough relationship. USADA has busted Jon Jones twice in doping violence. USADA caught Jones for the first time ahead of his fight against Jon Jones at UFC 200 against Daniel Cormier in July 2016. Jones was pulled from the fight and provisionally suspended three days prior to that event. He was suspended and served a one-year ban by USADA for testing positive for two banned substances, clomiphene and letrozole.

He was busted again last year in Jones after his UFC 214 fight against Daniel Cormier tested positive for the steroid turinabol, which carries a two-year suspension from USADA for first-time offenders and longer for multiple-time offenders. However, USADA has yet to have handed Jones a suspension for the second failed drug test.

But Colby Covington in July told  “You’re Welcome” podcast that he believed Jon Jones has paid off USADA for an early return.

USADA spokesperson Danielle Eurich told MMAjunkie that:

“In relation to some media and social media comments we have observed, USADA wishes to clarify that under no circumstances do we receive payments as part of the resolution of cases.”

However, it’s still unclear as to why USADA haven’t had a ruling out against Jon Jones as Fabricio Werdum has been suspended by USADA for two years following a failed drug test. Werdum will not be eligible to compete in the UFC until May 2020 as his suspension started on May 22.
