UFC Vegas 46: Calvin Kattar defeats Giga Chikadze via unanimous decision

UFC Vegas 46, which took place on 15th January at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas saw a mouth-watering headline event between top featherweight contenders Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze. Kattar was able to secure a victory by unanimous decision (50–45, 50–45, 50–44).

UFC Vegas 46 marked the return of Calvin Kattar to the Octagon following a hiatus of one year. Kattar kicked off the UFC’s 2021 calendar year when he took on Max Holloway and suffered a life-changing beating. Kattar had been 2-1 in his last three and the two wins came against top contenders Dan Ige and Jeremy Stephens and this victory now makes him 3-1 in his last four fights.

On the other hand, it was the first defeat for Giga Chikadze since joining the UFC. The Georgian former kickboxer had been undefeated in the Octagon with a 7-0 record prior to the clash against Kattar. In his last fight, he completely destroyed Edson Barboza and proved he’s one of the best in the world.

“I feel great,” said Kattar after the win, “He’s a tough fighter, 7-0 in the UFC. They all counted me out in this fight. Like I’ve been saying, everybody counting me out doesn’t matter. As long as you believe in yourself that’s all that matters.” [H/T ESPN]
