It was a close contest between middleweight stars Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC Vegas 66 this December 17th at the UFC Apex, and after the fight went the distance, it was Cannonier who was able to edge out Strickland via split decision.
While both 185-pounders had a little reserved approach at the start, the fight gradually saw both Cannonier and Strickland attempting to open each other up with an offensive switch.
Round four saw some heavy strikes from Strickland, but Cannonier held his ground and returned with bigger strikes, continuing into the fifth and final round of the clash. While all three scores were 49-46, it was Cannonier who secured the decision from two out of three judges.
