UFC Vegas 67 Results: Sean Strickland defeats Nassourdine Imavov via unanimous decision

Sean Strickland defeated Nassourdine Imamov in the main event of UFC Vegas 67 at the UFC’s Apex Facility in Las Vegas. Strickland took the fight on short notice, but that didn’t prove to be a problem as the Anaheim native scored a unanimous decision win over his Dagestani counterpart.

Strickland invited Imavov to throw punches as he marched forward to start the fight in his usual manner. In the first half of the round, both competitors connected on their targets with precise blows. Before moving his attention back upstair, Strickland incorporated some low kicks into his approach to vary it. Strickland increased the forward push after Imavov was distracted by a powerful right hand in an attempt to land another big haymaker, but it was unsuccessful.

Over the course of the following four rounds, Strickland’s strategy stayed the same.

It was a typical Strickland effort in which he advanced while concealing a quick jab. He added a couple extra kicks and takedowns as a new twist, but mostly his boxing attack continued to march forward.

It was a frustrating fight for Imavov, who occasionally attempted clumsy takedowns and found it difficult to prevent Strickland from putting together combinations.

Imavov occasionally had good moments and scored his fair number of strikes, so Strickland’s performance wasn’t entirely in vain. The fight proceeded to the scorecards, where Strickland won with scores of 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 due to his five-round experience and outstanding cardio.

After losing by split decision to Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC Fight Night 216 less than a month ago, Strickland got back to the win column with this victory.
