It’s surprising that in a sport as gruesome as MMA, something relatively trivial as weight cut is one of the most dangerous aspects of the game. Fighters dehydrating themselves to obtain size advantage make themselves susceptible to issues ranging from hormonal imbalances to kidney failure. Even introducing a new weight classe hasn’t solved this problem.
Last weekend, UFC made its first visit to the city of Liverpool featuring Liverpool’s own Darren Till taking on Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. The stage was set for Till to make history however he missed weight weighing in at 174.5 pounds. After negotiations with Wonderboy’s team, they agreed on Till weighing in at 187 pounds several hours before the fight. Till made weight and the fight was on. The reason Till gave was a ‘family emergency’ but unseen footages portray a scary picture.
In the footage originally released by Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, Till can be seen having problems cutting last 11 pounds. Till can be seen struggling on the mitts, crawling out of sauna and then admitting to have vision problems. (via YouTube):

Till reportedly didn’t sleep on the night of weigh-ins, and that he underwent colonic hydrotherapy as a last resort before missing weight.
