A light heavyweight matchup between former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith is set to headline a UFC Fight Night event on Oct. 27 in Canada, official Twitter account of UFC confirmed it.
Oezdemir was supposed to take on Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 227 but had to pull out due to a broken nose. He is coming off a TKO loss to current Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, before his loss to the double champ, he was on a three-fight winning streak, beating the likes of Ovince Saint Preux, Misha Cirkunov, and Jimi Manuwa.
Smith (30-13) is roaring up the 205-pound rankings, The 30-year-old Texan, who fights out of Omaha is coming off with back-to-back stoppages against former champions Rashad Evans and Shogun Rua. A former middleweight, Smith is 5-2 overall in the UFC.
The UFC’s first show in Moncton will also feature a heavyweight bout between Canadian Arjan Singh Bhullar (7-1-0) and Brazil’s Marcelo Golm (6-1-0).
UFC Fight Night 138 takes place Oct. 27 at SMG Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
