UFC 239 last weekend, featured a pivotal welterweight bout with probable title implications as #4 ranked Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal took on undefeated, former ONE FC and Bellator champion, #5 ranked Ben ‘Funky’ Askren.
Masvidal had to hand Askren his first professional loss. What was expected by many to be a typical Funky style mauling match up, the fight ended up being the exact opposite. Masvidal took a break from his signature ‘three piece and a soda’ to land a ‘buffet’ (a flying knee) to starch Askren out cold. It took him only 5 seconds and will go down in the history as the fastest knockout ever.
Masvidal later revealed the fact that the knee was planned well before in hand. Askren would obviously revert to what he’d do the best which is wrestle, which ended up him walking into the dangerous knee. Masvidal’s long-time coach, former UFC veteran revealed a footage in which Masvidal was seeing practising the same knee which snatched Askren’s consciousness. (via Instagram):
