The curse of MMA gods strike again as a pivotal bout of the stacked UFC 230 might be scrapped. Former interim and world title challenger #1 ranked Yoel ‘Soldier of God’ Romero (13-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) was scheduled to take on #9 ranked undefeated prospect Paulo Costa (12-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC). The bout was supposed to be one of the four middleweight bouts on the card.

Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN, Romero revealed the news claiming a broken orbital as a reason behind it.

“Maybe four or five months [until I can return]. The doctor said, ‘Yoel needs more time.’ You know me. If you give me somebody, I take it. But you need to be smart. When the doctor says, ‘You’re ready,’ you can go. I’m waiting.

My eye is not ready. I want to fight, but it is what it is. The doctor said, ‘Yoel cannot fight.’ I want to fight on this card, this show. Anytime you have an opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, you’re making history. But I need to wait.”

The blow is indeed a huge one for  the historic Madison Square Garden card on November 4.
