MMA in Iceland is mainly related to the renowned Mjolnir MMA in the country’s capital of Reykjavik.
Also Fighting out of Reykjavik,the first fighter ever coming out of Iceland,is #13 ranked UFC Welterweight Contender Gunnar ‘Gunni’ Nelson.Nelson although trains at the infamous SBG gym in Dublin,Ireland where UFC Lightweight Champion ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor aslo trains at.
In 2005, he was chosen as Iceland’s most promising up-and-coming karate talent of that year, when he was just 16. However, he gave up karate to train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and grappling at age 17.
Other notable fighters from Mjolnir includes former Cage Contender Interim Welterweight Champion,Strawweight Sunna Davidsdottir who comepetes in Invicta FC,Featherweight Bjarki Thor Palsson and many more.
