Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman (12-1 MMA,7-0 in the UFC) has looked unstoppable in arguably the most stacked division in the UFC.The Blackzilian Gym product is undefeated in the UFC and has steam rolled through his opponents by grappling dominant style.
Usman faces ranked #10 Argentinian Santiago ‘Gente Boa’ Ponzinibbio at UFC’s first visit in Chile on May 19,2018 in a main event. The fight is supposed to be a classical striker vs grappler match up with Usman being the latter. However this would be the first time ever that Usman would face an opponent with a number before him. With a fighter performing the way Usman has,he and the fans as well would have liked to see him against ranked high level fighters. However an another aspect of getting bigger fights is promotion, and Usman thinks White’s recent comments have had a negative impact on him being promoted.
In his last fight against the Viking Emil ‘Valhalla’ Weber-Meek in January. After a dominating win against Meek via unanimous decision, Usman in his post fight interview told fans he was fighting at 30% of his abilities.(via YouTube):
After Dana White said, “It’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard somebody say, and you’re getting booed out of the arena on top of it,I don’t know. We’ll see what’s next for him.”
Speaking to Ariel on The MMA Hour, seemed upset about the criticism and the backlash that it has caused. Usman went on to say “I meant I was literally maybe 30 percent of my abilities which is what I stated, but of course when you have a president that is so powerful like Dana White he goes out in the media and says what he says everyone just jumps on it…Once Dana said that it was just the backlash of it and what not, but what I meant to say was I was at 30 percent health. Dana took it the wrong way, so fans took it the wrong way.”
Could we see Kamara Usman fighting for the title in 2018?
