A big blow to the UFC on Fox 29 card as old school Welterweight co-main event between former interim champion Carlos ‘Natural Born Killer’ Condit (30-11 MMA, 7-7 UFC) and Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown (21-16 MMA, 14-10 UFC) is off the charts.

Brown tweeted, “Wish it was all April Fools but I did tear my acl over the weekend. I hope @CarlosCondit gets an opponent and doesn’t have to lose out on the opportunity. We’ll do it for sure when I’m back.”(via Twitter):

Brown,37,last fought in November at Fight Night:Poirier vs Pettis against former ultimate fighter winner Diego ‘the Nightmare’ Sanchez in Norfolk, Virginia. A year ago Brown fought two time lightweight title challenger Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 206. Brown had a good start, winning the striking exchanges and eventually catching Cerrone in a triangle choke, however in the third round Cerrone landed a brutal head kick to knockout Brown becoming the only second fighter to register a KO/TKO victory over Brown after Jake Ellenberger.

Brown had thoughts of retirement after this fight however with veteran Sanchez moving up a weight class aligned the stars in the right direction for Brown to fight again.Brown looked rusty getting hurt by a Sanchez’s liver kick however knocked Sanchez with a brutal elbow.

Condit similar to Brown took some time off from the sport. He returned at UFC 219 against Neil Magny in December after a 15 month layoff. He lost the bout via unanimous decision.

Hence match makers might have scheduled this fight as a bout between veterans. However once it was off, MMA fans had one answer, Mike ‘The Platinum’ Perry. Perry known for having a lot of frequency in his fights, MMA fans thought of him immediately once the fight was off. Perry has fought 7 times in his short 18 month career. However Perry denied the fight tweeting,”Would love to fight @CarlosCondit however on short notice after taking a month off (longest break of my life) still recouping my foot and being pretty heavy right now it just isn’t in the cards. Thanks for thinking of me.”(via Twitter):

UFC on Fox 29 is on April 14, 2018 at the Gila River Arena.
