The undefeated Dagestani Usman Nurmagomedov, who is the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov has signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA.

Usman Nurmagomedov is 11-0 since turning pro in 2017. Ten of his 11 victories have come via stoppage. He is considered a major prospect in mixed martial arts. Bellator officials said he will compete in the promotion’s lightweight division and is expected to debut in December or January.

His first opponent has not been set. Bellator announced that they had signed Usman Nurmagomedov to a multiyear, multi-fight deal. Usman is a younger cousin of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and one of his training partners at Dagestan as well as AKA.

Khabib announced the signing on his Instagram page Friday.

Khabib in the caption wrote “I want to announce my brother @usman_nurmagomedov has signed a multi-year deal with @bellatormma I just want to thank everyone for giving him this opportunity @bellatormma @dominance_mma and my big Brother @aliabdelaziz000 “

Bellator’s President Scott Cooker released the statement on signing Usman.“With today’s signing of Usman Nurmagomedov, we are making it clear that Bellator is home to the best fighters on the planet and an organization where the sport’s future stars are coming to compete,” Bellator president Scott Coker stated in a release. “I am thrilled to have Usman join the promotion and he will be placed in an immediate position to showcase his skills and contend at 155-pounds. We hope to have him in action inside the Bellator cage by December or January.”

Meet 'killer' Usman Nurmagomedov

Usman Nurmagomedov fights in the lightweight division and trains out of American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif., alongside Khabib, and was also trained by Khabib’s father Abdulmanap in Dagestan.

Usman Nurmagomedov’s resume includes finishes in ten of his career wins, including several in the first round. Usman also has an amazing wrestling background just like most of the fighters coming out of Dagestan who have amazing takedown and grappling skills. Usman has seven knockouts and three submissions in those ten-stoppages.

Most recently, he finished Svyatoslav Shabanov with a second-round TKO at a Fight Nights Global event in early September, which gave him five straight stoppage wins after the lone decision of his career.

In Bellator’s lightweight division, he’ll eventually be competing Patricio Freire, who holds the title at lightweight as well as a featherweight. A former champion in the division, Michael Chandler, recently left Bellator for the UFC. But Bellator still has amazing talent in their roster with the likes of former UFC and WEC champ Benson Henderson, Patricky Freire, and former champ Brent Primus among its contenders at 155 pounds.
