Uttar Pradesh based MMA fighter Sumit Kumar has signed a contract to represent India in ‘Road To UFC’. Road to UFC is a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts (MMA) event series in which top Asian MMA prospects compete in a tournament to win UFC contracts.
Last month, Anshul Jubli won the lightweight contest by defeating Indonesia’s Jeka Saragih to get a UFC contract. Anshul Jubli also became the first Indian fighter to win inside the UFC and became only the second Indian fighter to get signed by the UFC.
Sumit Kumar is 4-0 as a professional and has trained at the Team Alpha Male in Sacramento under the greats like Urijah Faber and Cody Garbrandt.

Sumit Kumar talks about his journey in MMA
In an interview with the MMA India Show, Sumit Kumar talked about his journey in MMA.
“I am from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. I started my career as a wrestler. I wrestled from the early stages of my life, I use to practice in many of the local wrestling gyms in Delhi. After that, I went into the army. I trained in the army for two years then I participated in the 11th World Martial Arts Games which took place in the US. I won the Gold medal in that competition and I was training under Team Alpha Male. There’s a federation that sent me to this competition and fought in the tournament while representing India.” Sumit said in an interview.
Sumit will be competing against the best Asian talents to fight for the opportunity to be awarded an UFC contract.
