Valentina Shevchenko Worrying About Bias Regarding Alexa Grasso Rematch In Mexico

Valentina Shevchenko has no objection in flying to Mexico to avenge her defeat to Alexa Grasso, but any potential bias that may rise by fighting her adversary in her home country has Shevchenko concerned.

“Bullet” was dethroned from her long title reign as the UFC Women’s Flyweight champion by Grasso at UFC 285. The Mexican, who was a massive underdog ahead of the title fight, shocked the MMA fandom after forcing Shevchenko into submission in the fourth round.

Following her historic win, Grasso thumbed up to an immediate rematch but also suggested that the fight should head to her home soil. And while Shevchenko is all up and ready for that, she’s worried about any potential bias by facing Grasso on her home turf.

“I am right now in the position to not say ‘Oh no, Mexico, I can’t go’ or something like that. No, I will definitely go to where the UFC puts the event,” said Shevchenko during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “But for me, the most important to know is that the judges and the referee are good in this fight. That they’re not leaning towards one side or another side.”

“And what about the crowd? Every time I was traveling in my Muay Thai career I was traveling to the home countries of my opponents and fight against them in their own land and winning them. For me, there is nothing better than to hear the full silence of the crowd when they cannot support their fighter. Because I understand there is nothing they can do,” she added.
