UFC bantamweight contenders Marlon Vera and Dominick Cruz are set to lock horns in the main event of an upcoming UFC Fight Night event in August, as latest reports have claimed.
The claim was first made by ESPN Deportes, who revealed that Vera and Cruz nodded to the headline a UFC Fight Night event on 13th August, even though the location is yet to be determined.
It will be the second time for Vera to be starring in a UFC main event, after facing Rob Font at UFC Vegas 53 back in April, a fight which he won via unanimous decision. Now, the 5th ranked bantamweight is set to take on former champion Cruz.
“Chito” recently hinted at his plans of facing Petr Yan up next, which he believes is the path to the Bantamweight title, but has also grudged with Cruz on social media in recent occasions.
“We’re literally one win away from fighting for that belt, so I hope we get it done with Yan. I think that’s the path to the belt, number one contender. We kick his ass, and we move forward,” Vera told The Schmo back in late May. [H/T BJPenn.com]
“The Dominator”, ranked 8th in the division is currently on a two-fight win streak in the Octagon, having defeated Casey Kenney and Pedro Munhoz at UFC 259 and UFC 269 in March and December last year, respectively.
Before that, Cruz had suffered back to back losses, first losing his Bantamweight title to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 back in 2016, followed by losing to Henry Cejudo at UFC 249, in his comeback after a gap of four years.

- Women’s Bantamweight: Aspen Ladd vs. Sara McMann
- Light Heavyweight: Devin Clark vs. Azamat Murzakanov
- Middleweight: Gerald Meerschaert vs. Bruno Silva
- Heavyweight: Lukasz Breski vs. Martin Buday
- Women Strawweight: Yazmin Jauregui vs. Istela Nunes
