In an absolute shocker, Andy Ruiz Jr stopped Anthony Joshua in the sixth round to become the new WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. He also became the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion of the world.

The opening round started with Joshua using his long jabs to keep Ruiz off, but Joshua loaded with a hard hook that could have dropped Ruiz Jr. In the second round, Joshua was more busy with his jabs, keeping Ruiz at bay.

In the third round, however, Joshua started the round strong and hands a hard left hook that dropped Ruiz early, but then the unexpected happened in the later half of the round. Recovering from that knockdown, Ruiz landed a hard right on Joshua’s jaw and dropped him. Even after he got up, he was on wobbly legs and in the corner started battering him, but Joshua didn’t throw anything back and taking this advantage,  Ruiz landed another big right and the British superstar was down once in the round.

The back and forth went on till the seventh round when Ruiz unloads his combination on Joshua and dropped him. Joshua was hurt and then Ruiz followed up with another combination that put him back on the canvas.

Referee Mike Griffin then talked to Joshua in the corner if he can continue but he waved off the fight in what is ultimately the biggest upset in the heavyweight boxing history.
