A few months ago the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson announced that he is coming out of retirement and plotting to return to the Octagon in the heavyweight division.
Now Rumble during the BKFC 9 media day told TheMacLife, that he is feeling faster and stronger in the training camp.
“Coming back now, I feel a lot better and my punches are a lot stronger, harder, faster…the other day my coaches said ‘AJ, you’re still dangerous’ that’s what he said…this is the second time he has seen me spar because he’s been gone for some time as well
“I have knocked out two people already in training in the first two days of sparring. So I feel like everything is clicking,” Johnson said.
When asked about his potential return to the Octagon, Johnson said that it will be fighting again in mid-2020.
“I was trying to shoot for April/May, but now maybe June/July……we will see, we will see…but whenever I come back, I will make sure it’s gonna be known…I wanna come back and showcase everything and just hurt people, ” Johnson concluded.
Rumble last fought inside the Octagon back in 2017 against Daniel Cormier at UFC 207. He lost the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the second round. Before that, he was on a three-fight winning streak against Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader and Jimmy Manuwa.
