Swiss light heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir had a really bad 2018, he only fought twice last year against the likes of former champion Daniel Cormier and Anthony Smith and he lost both the fights. Then he got himself involved in a legal spat that involved the UFC fighter assaulting someone.
Then earlier this year he fought #4 ranked light heavyweight contender Dominick Reyes where he lost the fight with a split decision. It was an extremely close fight and many fans thought that Oezdemir had done enough to win on the judges scorecards. However, now the Swiss has put his name back on the win column after he knocked Ilir Latifi in the second round earlier this month at UFC fight night event in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Now, Oezdemir says that he wanted a rematch with Dominick Reyes who he lost to via a controversial decision. With Reyes being unavailable as he is scheduled to fight Chris Weidman in Boston, Oezdemir wants a crack at Jan Blachowicz who is coming off of a devastating second-round KO win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 239 last month.
“Reyes is the fight I want the most. We have some history and I am not happy with the decision. I want that fight to knock him out this time,” Volkan Oezdemir told BJPENN.com. “Other than that, the smartest fight, because Reyes is booked, is to fight Jan Blachowicz.
“I think it will be the next one. He is number five, I am number seven so it makes sense,” he continued. “I understand if he wants to wait and try for the title shot.” (H/T – BJPenn.com)
