Volkanovski Apparently Wants Rematch at UFC Spain After His Defeat Against Ilia Topuria At UFC 298

Alexander Volkanovski is not backing down after enduring defeat against Ilia Topuria with a second-round knockout. Topuria captured the featherweight title with a win at UFC 298 in Anaheim, California.  The Georgian-Spaniard fighter knocked out Australia’s Volkanovski with a massive right hook to secure his maiden championship. The win put an end to 35-year-old Volkanovski’s glittering featherweight reign of five title defenses over four years.

Volkanovski took that bout on 11 days’ notice following an injury to former champion Charles Oliveira. Volkanovski returned to the featherweight division after failing in his second attempt to capture UFC Lightweight title belt from Islam Makhachev in October.

Meanwhile, with the victory at the Honda Centre, Topuria extends his unbeaten record to 15 fights. Now, as it seems, Volk wants a rematch that too at UFC Spain.

Alexander Volkanovski wants a rematch at UFC Spain

Following the loss at UFC 298, Alexander Volkanovski made it clear that he wants a rematch against Topuria and vows to reclaim his title belt. He said:

“I definitely want that rematch, Spain is what i’m hearing is gonna happen. I’m gonna get that belt back, mark my words”.


UFC never held an event in Spain and there have been talks of a blockbuster bout featuring Ilia Topuria and Conor McGregor as well. There has been a buzz that Conor McGregor, former UFC Double Champion is set to make his octagon return soon. It was noted that the fight could take place against Spanish fighter Ilia Topuria at UFC Spain event.

Notorious‘ has been on the sidelines for quite some time as in the trilogy bout against rival Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, McGregor suffered a broken fibula. He has been recovering on the sidelines after titanium shinbone insertion. With UFC Spain approaching soon, fans are expecting him to return.

Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White has also confirmed plans are already in place for an event in Spain and said that he is open to holding it at Real Madrid’s iconic stadium, Santiago Bernabeu that has a staggering 81,044 seats.

Only time will tell who Ilia Topuria faces at UFC Spain.
