UFC Legend Wanderlei Silva has called out his former opponent Vitor Belfor and has expressed interest in having a boxing match against him. The long-time MMA veteran Wanderlei Silva who hasn’t fought in MMA since his 2019 Bellator loss against Jackson, has now stated interest in coming back to the fight game and wants to explore the boxing world. He has stated that he wants to rematch his former opponent Vitor Belfort who has recently fought in a boxing match against Evander Holyfield. Silva has no prior boxing experience but now wants to explore that part of the world and wants to earn some big paycheck at the very end of his fighting career.

Wanderlei Silva is a longtime UFC and MMA veteran. Silva has competed in Japan’s Pride Fighting Championships and the UFC. He holds the record for the most wins, knockouts, title defenses, and longest winning streak in PRIDE history. He is the former PRIDE Middleweight Champion, and the 2003 PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix Tournament Champion. He most recently competed for Bellator MMA in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.

Wanderlei Silva calls out Vitor Belfort

Vitor Belfort faced Lyoto Machida at UFC 224. He lost the fight after being knocked out by a front kick to the face. Following the fight, Belfort announced his retirement from the MMA competition. He then later announced he might be fighting at ONE Championship but that never came to fruition. Recently Belfort had agreed to an exhibition boxing match with former six-division boxing world champion Oscar De La Hoya in September 2021, But Oscar had to pull out of the fight as he tested positive for COVID. He was replaced by Holyfield who lost the fight in a brutal manner as he got finished by Belfort in the very first round.

Now speaking to AG Fight, Wanderlei Silva said that he wants to fight a boxing match against Vitor Belfort.

“It would be a super interesting fight and most of all, it’s a fight that everyone wants to see. Everyone wants to see me smack around Belfort. I’m sure boxing will be different. I have very good boxing, I’ve been training boxing for a long time and I’m sure my boxing can surprise everyone,” Silva said. “I’m interested, getting ready. After this new trend, the legends face each other, in a rule a little easier than boxing, because you don’t need to train jiu-jitsu, takedowns. It’s a little more ‘light’. So I’m keeping in shape, because I know that when the time and the right event come, if it’s good for the audience and if they want to see the ‘Wand’ in action, it’ll be really cool.”
